The lonely job (original title: Report to the Commissioner ) is an American crime film from 1975 . Directed by Milton Katselas , the screenplay was written by Abby Mann and Ernest Tidyman based on a novel by James Mills .
action
Bo Lockley is hired by the police. The routine of work frustrates him. Lockley sees his partner searching a drug dealer and running for it. The partner explains that he felt the police badge while scanning it, so he released the undercover police officer.
Lockley is tasked with finding a girl who is believed to be lost. He finds her; since she works with the police, she complains to his superiors. Lockley is then instructed to forget about her. Nevertheless, he follows her into an apartment, where he runs into the drug dealer Thomas Henderson, with whom the woman lives. A shooting ensues during which Lockley accidentally kills the woman. Lockley and the persecuted drug dealer are later locked in an elevator of a department store for a few hours. The police surround the building and there is another shooting.
The police are trying to cover up the incident.
Reviews
Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times that the "competent police film" does not always work - but where it does work, it wins the interest of the audience. Michael Moriarty is talented, but does not use his opportunities to the full. Some other actors would do very well.
The lexicon of international film judges the film as "[r] obust built, meaningful colportage , in which shocking effects take the lead role at times ."
The magazine TV direkt 1/2008 wrote that the film was realistic and sometimes shocking.
backgrounds
The film was shot in New York City and the Warner Brothers Burbank Studios in Burbank ( California turned). Richard Gere played his first role in a movie.
