Reuben Renwick Rogers (born November 15, 1974 in Saint Thomas ) is an American jazz musician ( double bass , bass guitar , also composition).

Live and act

Rogers was helped by his parents to develop his musical skills. He first learned the clarinet, then played the piano, drums and guitar before he discovered the bass when he was 14. While still at school he played with Ron Blake and Dion Parson . Rogers received awards and grants from the St. Thomas Arts Council and other institutions that allowed him to graduate from summer schools at Interlochen Arts Camp in Michigan and the Berklee College of Music . He eventually received a scholarship to study in Boston and graduated from Berklee College with a bachelor's degree in 1997.

At the age of 17 he toured with the trio of Marcus Roberts . He then worked with Wynton Marsalis , Roy Hargrove , Joshua Redman , Nicholas Payton , Mulgrew Miller , Jackie McLean and Dianne Reeves , with whom he also toured internationally. Since 2007 he is part of the New Quartet of Charles Lloyd , since 2012, the New York Quartet of Tomasz Stanko . Between 1994 and 2016 he was involved in 116 recordings in the field of jazz, also with Laurent Coq and Teodross Avery . Together with Clarence Penn , the double bass player formed the rhythm section of the Denis Gäbel Quartet on their 2019 tour of Germany.
