Revel in Flesh is a Baden-Württemberg death metal band from Schwäbisch Gmünd that was founded in 2011.

history

The band was founded in autumn 2011 because Ralf "Haubersson" Haubers band Immortal Rites was about to split up. The actual breakup of this band took place in January 2012. In the fall / early winter of 2011/2012, the debut album Deathevokation was recorded in Marcus “Maggesson” Köchl's Vault M. Studio. The song material for this was already written between 2007 and 2011. The album was mastered by Dan Swanö in Unisound Studio in January 2012. The album was released in the spring of the same year. The album was released on the FDA Rekotz label. The band had the contract through Hauber, who was in contact with the label founder Rico Unglaube through his fanzine Mystical Music. Hauber had contact with Dan Swanö through Rogga Johansson from Paganizer around 2005/2006. Swanö had also previously mastered the last release of Immortal Rites. At the time of publication, the group consisted of Marcus "Maggesson" Köchl, von Apophis , and Ralf "Haubersson" Hauber. In order to be able to play live, the drummer Tim “Vøgtsson” Byron, the guitarist Fabian “Herrmannsgard” Herrmann and the bassist Sebastian “Gøtzborg” Götz joined the cast after the album was released. The band held their first appearance together with Paganizer and Goregast . Two appearances later, the group played at Party.San . In 2013 the second album Manifested Darkness followed , which, like its predecessor, was released by FDA Rekotz. The sound carrier was mixed by Dan Swanö. In the same year the band played, among other things, on the Summer Breeze . After the group switched to Cyclone Empire in September 2014 , the third album Death Kult Legions was released in December. The label had previously released two split releases. Swanö was again in production for the third album. In 2015 they had another appearance at the Summer Breeze Open Air.

style

Thomas Meyer from voicesfromthedarkside.de thought the band played Swedish death metal. In an interview with Meyer, Hauber stated that the members were influenced by bands like Gorefest , Entombed , Dismember , early Malevolent Creation , Autopsy and Asphyx .

According to Sebastian Schilling from Rock Hard , Death Kult Legions only superficially reminds of Swedish Death Metal. Instead, they are now being used from all European countries. In songs like Frozen Majesty an influence from Doom Metal can also be heard. In an interview with Schilling, Hauber stated that the band may use keyboards in the studio, but do without them live. Most of the songs would be written by Köchl. Patrick Schmidt had reviewed the album an issue earlier and described the music as old-school death metal. On the album there is a mix of Swedish Death Metal and Bolt Thrower - riffs .

Marcel Rudoletzky from Metal Hammer stated in his review of Deathevocation that the band was reviving classic Swedish Death Metal, just as Entrails , Black Breath and Lifeless would do. The electric guitars have been tuned lower and the speed is occasionally varied. Thomas Strater from the same magazine reviewed the album Death Kult Legions three years later . On the sound carrier, the group plays "brutal, clubbing, sometimes driving straight ahead, sometimes rolling and rolling Old School Death Metal" with deep Death Metal growls . In songs like When Glory Turns to Ruin , an influence from Bolt Thrower can be heard.
