Rhinestone Cowboy (like " Rhinestone -Cowboy") is a country song by Glen Campbell in 1975. The play was written by Larry Weiss and produced by Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter. It appeared on the album of the same name.
history
Weiss wrote the song in 1974 and recorded a demo tape because the song was originally intended for his album Black & Blue Suite . Since he was not satisfied with his interpretation, he gave the song to Glen Campbell, who was on tour in Australia at the time . After returning to the USA Campbell presented the piece to the then label boss Al Coury of Capitol Records , who was enthusiastic and agreed to the recording. The song is about the compromises an artist has to make.
The piece was released on May 26, 1975 and became a number one hit in the United States , Canada , Ireland and Yugoslavia . The song was heard in films such as The Whiz kid , High School High and The Kindergarten Daddy . It was also used in the series Mehr Schein als Sein , Family Guy (Peter sings the chorus in the episode Murder Without Order ), Desperate Housewives and Red Oaks . For sales of one million singles, the track was awarded a gold record by the Recording Industry Association of America . In addition, nominations at the Grammy Awards for the best country song and as recording of the year followed.
