geography

Geographical location

The settlement is located in the Rotenberg , which separates the Harz foreland and the Eichsfeld . In Rhumasprung, the Rhume begins its course in the Rhume spring , which is fed by underground drains from the Oder , Sieber and their tributaries, as well as numerous lakes such as Kesselsumpf , Juessee or Ochsenpfuhl .

In addition to Rhumspringe, the closest places are Pöhlde , Lütgenhausen , Rüdershausen and Hilkerode .

history

District and community membership

Before 1972 Rhumasprung was part of the municipality of Pöhlde in the district of Osterode am Harz , while Rhumspringe was in the district of Duderstadt . The border that separated the places was therefore the district of Osterode am Harz / district of Duderstadt and the municipality of Pöhlde / municipality of Rhumspringe . On July 1, 1972, Pöhlde became part of the municipality of Herzberg am Harz . Half a year later, the Duderstadt district became part of the Göttingen district. The new dividing borders were thus the district of Osterode am Harz / district of Göttingen and the municipality of Herzberg am Harz / municipality of Rhumspringe . Both communities and both districts advertised the Rhume spring in their area, although it actually only belonged to the Osterode district.

On November 1, 2016, the districts of Göttingen and Osterode merged to form the new district of Göttingen . Rhumasprung, however, remains part of Herzberg and thus separated from Rhumspringe and the Gieboldehausen joint municipality . However, the Rhumspringer postcode can also be used for the address.

Origin of the place name

Like the name “Rhumspringe”, “Rhumasprung” is derived from the Rhume spring. The ending in -a could also be derived from the legend of the mermaid "Rhuma".
