Ricardo Porro (born November 3, 1925 in Camagüey , Cuba ; † December 25, 2014 in Paris , France ) was a Cuban-French architect , painter and sculptor .

Life

After completing his studies, Ricardo Porro built several villas in Havana inspired by the work of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe , then toured Europe and returned to Cuba in 1960. There he built two buildings that are emblematic of his new style: the art school and the school for modern dance in Havana.

In 1966 he went into permanent exile in France, where he taught art and building history in Paris , Lille and Strasbourg . During this time he created numerous designs that were not realized, but whose sketches and models were exhibited in many cases and distributed through publications and photos.

Together with the young French architect Renaud de la Noue, with whom he teamed up professionally in 1986, he realized - mainly in the Île-de-France  - numerous buildings, especially for the school authorities , including the university residence and the secondary school in the planned city ( ville nouvelle ) Cergy .

Ricardo Porro's sculpture-like structures, which can be attributed to organic architecture , are often inspired by nature, the human body, animals and trees. They are characterized by expressiveness and imagination. As a rule, they consist of several smaller units that are grouped around one or more squares and resemble a smaller urban project.

Porro lived in Paris. His drawings are exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art in New York , among others .
