Richard Münch (born August 31, 1889 in Altenburg , † October 6, 1968 in Berlin ) was a German politician ( DVP , CDU ). From 1945 to 1946 he was district mayor of the Spandau district of Berlin. On June 22, 1965 he was awarded the title of city ​​elder in Berlin.

Life and political career

Before World War II

Münch was a lawyer and notary by profession. He was initially a member of the German People's Party (DVP). From 1922 to 1933 he was a paid city councilor and department head in Berlin-Spandau. Among other things, he was responsible for the areas of finance and health and social affairs. From 1927 to 1934, Münch taught at the administration seminar of the city of Berlin.

After the National Socialists dismissed him from public service , he returned to working as a lawyer. He stood up for opponents of the Nazi regime.

After the Second World War

Münch was appointed district mayor of Spandau by the Soviet military administration on May 6, 1945 and was later confirmed by the British occupying forces.

About a year later Richard Münch resigned from his post for health reasons. Until 1951 he was active as parliamentary group leader of the CDU in the district assembly of Spandau.

After his death, Richard Münch was given an honorary grave by the city of Berlin in the mayor's grove at the In den Kisseln cemetery . A street in Spandau is named after him.
