Richard Schickel

Richard Warren Schickel (born February 10, 1933 in Milwaukee , Wisconsin , † February 18, 2017 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American writer , documentary filmmaker and film critic .

Life

Richard Schickel attended Wauwatosa East High School in Wauwatosa . He worked as a film critic for Life since the early 1960s and then for Time from 1965 to 2009 , but also wrote many books on film studies on the side. In addition, he published his film reviews on the Internet. Together with Richard Corliss , he made the Time selection of the best 100 films from 1923 to 2005 in 2005 .

His production company Lorac Productions created documentaries about film history and personalities right up to the end. There are comments from him on a number of DVD editions.

On February 18, 2017, Schickel died of complications from a series of strokes in Los Angeles.
