The Rifugio Guide del Cervino is a refuge in the Aosta Valley in the Valais Alps . It is located at an altitude of 3480  m in the Valtournenche side valley near the Plateau Rosa within the municipality of Valtournenche and belongs to the Società Guide del Cervino (French: Société des guides du Cervin - Association of Mountain Guides on the Matterhorn), founded in 1865 . The hut is managed by a tenant all year round and has 36 beds (no dormitories).

The Rosa Plateau can be reached from Breuil-Cervinia by cable car via the Testa Grigia station at the Theodul Pass . From Zermatt you can reach the Plateau Rosa via Trockener Steg either with the Klein Matterhorn cable car or with the Gandegg tow lift .

Border dispute

The border between Italy and Switzerland is defined by the watershed at the location of the hut . This has changed due to the melting of snow masses and glaciers ( global warming ). In the Swiss view , two thirds of the hut is now on Swiss territory; Italy denies this. The border commissions of both countries are negotiating the case. A decision is expected by the end of 2020, until then construction work in the disputed area is only allowed with the consent of both countries.

Ascent

The refuge can be reached within 4½ hours from Breuil-Cervinia.
