The Rindengrund viaduct is a railway bridge of the Odenwaldbahn in the suburbs of Unter-Sensbach and Ober-Sensbach , districts of the town of Oberzent in the Odenwaldkreis in the southern Odenwald .

location

The Rindengrund viaduct is located between the Hesseneck Kailbach stop and the Eberbach train station , a few meters from the state border between Hesse and Baden-Württemberg on the Hessian side, opposite Friedrichsdorf , a district of Eberbach . The bridge spans the Rindengrund , a right northern side valley of the Itter , in which the boundary between Unter-Sensbach and Ober-Sensbach runs. The north ramp of the viaduct, however, belongs to the Kailbach district .

Architecture and history

The approx. 60 m long bark base viaduct consists of quarry stone masonry that was faced with sandstone blocks. The viaduct was built in the years 1880–1882 and its construction is a scaled-down copy of the Himbächel viaduct on the same route. On May 27, 1882, the structure was opened to traffic together with the opening of the Kailbach– Eberbach section .

Monument protection

The railway bridge is a cultural monument due to the Hessian Monument Protection Act . The viaduct is a fine example of civil engineering in the 1880s.
