Archangel Michael sgraffito

history

Since the 19th century, Rinnen formed a community in the mayor's office of Kall in the Schleiden district . At the beginning of the 1930s, the municipality of Rinnen was incorporated into the municipality of Sötenich . In 1969, Sötenich was incorporated into the municipality of Kall.

Chapel of St. Michael

Rinnen has the Catholic Chapel of St. Michael, which belongs to the parish of Sötenich and thus to the community of the parishes of St. Hermann-Josef Steinfeld in the diocese of Aachen .

This chapel was one of the few churches built during the National Socialist era. The main initiator was the then Sistiger pastor Johannes Berens; The architect was Willy Weyres , later Cologne cathedral master builder. At the decisive meeting of the chapel association on June 21, 1936, the design of a wooden church by the Milz company in Marmagen was opposed and the design by Willy Weyres was approved instead. A quote from Willy Weyres: “The altar is the most important house, it is the dwelling of the Most High. To emphasize this, I installed the tower above the altar in the present design and the gallery next to the altar. Everything in the chapel should pull people forward to the altar. "

The outside is dominated by a large sgraffito by the Archangel Michael von Ernst Jansen-Winkeln . On June 21, 1942 the chapel was consecrated to St. Archangel Michael, which has 130 seats and 200 standing places. In 1943 the windows with the pictures of the Stations of the Cross were installed.
