Roßhaupten is a street village in the municipality of Röfingen in the Swabian district of Günzburg on the western edge of the landscape called Holzwinkel , which forms the northern part of the Augsburg-Westliche Wälder nature reserve .

location

The place is about one and a half kilometers east of Röfingen on the B 10 .

history

Like the neighboring towns of Landensberg and Glöttweng to the east , Roßhaupten was originally a clearing settlement.

In the first half of the 16th century there was a post office in Roßhaupten on the Dutch postal route from Brussels via Augsburg to Innsbruck and Italy, which has been occupied since 1523. The postmaster general Franz II von Taxis from Brussels transferred this post office together with the Augsburg post office to Seraphin I von Taxis for usufruct . However, the Roßhaupten post office was relocated to the neighboring Scheppach as early as 1549 under Postmaster General Leonhard I von Taxis , as can be seen from the trial files from 1568.

In terms of rulership, Roßhaupten was closely linked to the neighboring village of Röfingen until 1805. Just like this, it belonged to the margraviate of Burgau in front of Austria .

Since the place belonged to the Kingdom of Bavaria , Roßhaupten was an independent municipality until the regional reform in Bavaria in the 1970s.
