Robert "Robby" Geale (born April 17, 1962 in Edmonton , Alberta ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player with German nationality who played in the National Hockey League for the Pittsburgh Penguins and later for the Heilbronner EC in Germany.

Player career

The 1.83 m tall center was in the squad of the Portland Winter Hawks in the Canadian Top Junior League WHL when he was selected in the 1980 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins as 156th in the eighth round. After two more seasons in Portland, the right-shooter moved to the organization of the Penguins, where he was first used in the farm team Baltimore Skipjacks in the American Hockey League . In the 1984/85 season Geale finally made his NHL debut for the Pittsburgh franchise . However, it remained with a single appearance in the best professional league in the world and the striker spent the rest of the time in North America with the Skipjacks in the AHL.

In 1986 the Canadian moved to the 2nd German Bundesliga at Heilbronner EC , where he and Steve Pépin formed one of the most dangerous strikers in the entire league. During this time, the attacker also received German citizenship. After the HEC's relegation to the league and a one-year forced break due to economic problems, Geale was part of the team for one season and then ended his active career in the summer of 1991.
