Robert Balcke (born February 17, 1880 in Schwiebus , Brandenburg province ; † August 21, 1945 in Berlin-Spandau ) was a German genre , landscape , portrait and interior painter and illustrator .

Life

Balcke studied from 1899 to 1905 at the Berlin Art Academy with Woldemar Friedrich and Joseph Scheurenberg . He was also a master student of Albert Hertel and Arthur Kampf . Then he went to Düsseldorf and became a student of Eduard von Gebhardt . Among other things, Balcke created pictures for various public buildings. In 1905 he returned to Schwiebus. He set up his studio there and painted portraits. In 1911 he received first prize in a competition advertised by the magazine Die Gartenlaube . In 1912 he moved to Spandau near Berlin. After the First World War he went on a study trip to Italy .
