Robert Cunningham (Bishop)
Robert Joseph Cunningham (born June 18, 1943 in Buffalo , New York , USA ) is an American clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Syracuse .
Life
Robert Cunningham received on 24 May 1969 by the auxiliary bishop in Buffalo , Bernard Joseph McLaughlin , the sacrament of Holy Orders .
On March 9, 2004, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Ogdensburg . The Archbishop of New York , Edward Michael Cardinal Egan , donated him episcopal ordination on May 18 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Hartford , Henry Joseph Mansell , and the Bishop of Palm Beach , Gerald Michael Barbarito . Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Syracuse on April 21, 2009. The inauguration took place on May 26 of the same year.
On June 4, 2019, Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation.
