Robert Trout

Johann Robert Peter Jakob Forell (born April 27, 1858 in Bockenheim , † May 18, 1927 in Frankfurt am Main ) was a German painter.

First he became a student of the drawing teacher Heinrich Hasselhorst at the Städelschule in Frankfurt am Main . In 1874 he stayed for the first time, together with his painter friend German Grobe , at the Haase Inn in Willingshausen , a meeting place for the Willingshausen painters' colony . Troell met u. a. on Hermann Sondermann and Fritz Sonderland , on Werner Leineweber and Adolf Lins from the Düsseldorf School of Painting . At the Städelschule in 1875 he switched to Professor Eduard Jakob von Steinle's class , where he stayed until 1880. He then moved to the Düsseldorf Art Academy . From 1880 to 1887 Wilhelm Sohn , Carl Ernst Forberg , Eduard Gebhardt and Julius Roeting were his teachers there. During this time he also undertook study trips to Holland , Switzerland and Italy .

From 1891 he settled in Frankfurt am Main again and, as a representative of the romantic direction, worked primarily as a history and genre painter, later also as a landscape painter. He was a member of the Frankfurt Artists' Society and took over its chairmanship in 1902. He was the III. Class of the Royal Prussian Crown Order awarded.

Robert Forell's grave slab in the "new" Bockenheimer cemetery on Ginnheimer Landstrasse is part of the elaborate total work of art of the Knodt-Forell-Kramer family burial site, made by the Bockenheimer fine art foundry Knodt AG, which went under in 1930.
