Robert Francis Christian OP (born December 2, 1948 in San Francisco , USA - † July 11, 2019 in Menlo Park ) was an American religious and Roman Catholic auxiliary bishop in San Francisco .

Life

Robert Christian joined in 1970 the Congregation of the Dominicans in 1971 and put the simple profession from. In 1974 he made his solemn profession. Christian received on 4 June 1976, the sacrament of the priesthood and worked in pastoral care in Seattle. He studied religious studies at the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology in Oakland and at the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas , where he also received a doctorate. He taught at Dominican College in San Rafael and was director of the Newman Center at the University of Washington. From 1985 he was Professor and Vice-Rector (1999-2004) onAngelicum in Rome. He has also taught at the Graduate Theological Union in Berkeley and the St. Vincent de Paul Regional Seminary in Boynton Beach . From 2016 he also supervised the students of the Western Dominican Province . Christian was an advisor to the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity and the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission (ARCIC).

On March 28, 2018 Pope appointed him Francis to the titular of Giru Marcelli and auxiliary bishop in San Francisco. The Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Joseph Cordileone , ordained him episcopal on June 5 of the same year ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Santa Fe , John Charles Wester , and the Bishop of Oakland , Michael Barber SJ . He was also the rector of St. Patrick's Seminary and the Dominican School of Philosophy and Theology .
