Robert Friedersdorff (born August 1, 1885 in Wirsitz , Kreis Wirsitz , District Bromberg ; † 1970 in Nauort , Unterwesterwaldkreis ) was a German portrait , figure and landscape painter and etcher from the Düsseldorf School .

life and work

Friedersdorff, son of the land registry director of the Dramburg district , Konrad Friedersdorff (* 1846), studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy . There were Willy Sparrow and Clausmeyer his teachers. He settled in Düsseldorf, where he temporarily lived at the same address with his sister Gertrud , a portrait and landscape painter. He made several study trips to Italy , in 1913 to Florence . From 1920 to 1928 he was a member of the artists' association Malkasten . He was also a member of the Association of Düsseldorf Artists and the Free Association of Düsseldorf Artists .

Friedersdorff was most noticeable through two-dimensional landscape paintings, which are characterized by a light color scheme as well as a broad, impasto texture - sometimes in contrast with finely dotted surfaces. His painting, which he executed in oil, watercolor, tempera and mixed media, as well as his etchings were influenced by Art Nouveau , German Impressionism and French Late Impressionism .
