Heinrich Ludwig Robert Giseke (born January 15, 1827 in Marienwerder in Prussia , † December 12, 1890 in Leubus ) was a German journalist and writer .

Life

Giseke was the great-grandson of the writer Nikolaus Dietrich Giseke . At the age of 19, Giseke began to study history, philosophy and theology at the universities of Breslau , Halle and Berlin from 1846 . During his studies in 1846 he became a member of the old Breslau fraternity Arminia and was a co-founder of the Breslau fraternity Teutonia .

In 1848 he took part in the Wartburg Festival.

Due to the political events of the March Revolution in 1849, the Frankfurt National Assembly had to give up its activities in Frankfurt and relocate to Stuttgart. When this rump parliament was due to be closed, Giseke joined the public protest; which meant exclusion from civil service for him.

From then on, he earned his living as a writer and journalist, having successfully made his debut as a novelist in 1850 with his cycle of novels, Modern Titans . From 1852 Giseke worked as editor of the Novellenzeitung in Leipzig and in 1859 switched to the Constitutional Newspaper in Dresden as a columnist for two years .

In 1861 he settled in Coburg as a writer and returned to Berlin two years later. In 1866 Giseke fell ill with a mental illness; He was treated in the sanatorium in the former Cistercian Abbey of Leubus Monastery near Wroclaw. Then Giseke lived alternately in Breslau and Görlitz.
