Robert Roberthin

Robert Roberthin (born March 3, 1600 in Saalfeld , East Prussia, † April 7, 1648 in Königsberg i. Pr. ) Was a German poet of the Baroque .

Life

As the son of a pastor, Roberthin studied law from 1617 at the Albertus University in Königsberg , the University of Leipzig and the University of Strasbourg . When his father died in 1620, he took up a position as court master . Numerous trips took him to England , France , Italy and Holland . He became Brandenburg councilor and senior secretary to the ducal government in Königsberg. Roberthin was friends with the Silesian poet Martin Opitz . He discovered and promoted his fellow poet Simon Dach , who composed the funeral song "I am, Lord, in your power" set to music by Heinrich Albert . Roberthin was the spiritual center of the Königsberg pumpkin hut .

Roberthin wrote numerous sacred and secular songs, which “surpass the learned poetry of the Silesian school by lightness and intimacy”. He had them appear under the pseudonym "Berrintho" in Heinrich Albert's arias for singing and playing (Königsberg 1638).
