Robert Sterk (born March 13, 1949 in Vienna; † March 12, 2013 ) was an Austrian journalist , author and media consultant.

Life

Sterk came from a family of journalists, his father was the deputy AZ editor-in-chief and resistance fighter Josef Sterk (1903–1981), his mother Friederike Elisabeth Sterk (born Zak, 1909–1980), his brother Harald Sterk (1938–1991), a cultural journalist . The Sterkgasse in the 5th district of Vienna was dedicated to the Sterk family.

Robert Sterk worked for Austrian and German publications. He started out as a local reporter for the workers' newspaper . In 1973 Peter Michael Lingens brought him to the profile . He then worked for the German weekly magazine stern as Austria editor from 1975 to 1979. He was editor-in-chief of the socialist monthly magazine Heute from 1979 to 1982. Hans Schmid brought him to Vienna in 1987 as head of the political department and was later also deputy. Editor-in-chief under Gerd Leitgeb. He was the managing director and editor-in-chief of the Austrian monthly magazine Basta from 1992 to 1993. In the mid-1990s he switched to Peter Rabl's offer for courier and became head of the chronicle and editor-in-chief of the Sonntagskurier . For years he was interested in residential construction and urban renewal and brought him to the development of the Wohn-KURIER, together with the then housing councilor Werner Faymann .

He has also edited various documentaries for ORF and designed the documentary about Rudolf Kirchschläger "Stations of a Life". He also produced many contributions for ORF radio.

As a supporter and supporter of the Vienna football club SK Rapid , he was elected to the board of trustees of the club in 1998. On January 28, 2008, he was awarded the golden merit of the City of Vienna by Mayor Michael Häupl : “With his work for newspapers and magazines, including for the workers' newspaper, profil, Stern, Wiener, where he was deputy editor-in-chief, and as editor-in-chief at Basta, he played a key role in shaping the Austrian and, in particular, the Viennese media landscape. As a columnist and head of the chronicle section of the Kurier, Vienna was the focus of his journalistic perspective from the mid-1990s. In addition, he also managed the Wohn-Kurier and therefore dealt intensively with the subject of subsidized housing and urban renewal. At the end of his professional career, Robert Sterk took over as editor-in-chief of Sonntag-Kurier. "

Most recently, Sterk worked as a media consultant and was involved in publications by Echo Verlag, which were dedicated to the 50-plus group of people. He died in 2013 one day before his 64th birthday and was buried at the Hietzinger Friedhof .

Václav Havel , Franz Vranitzky , Hannes Androsch were among the people with whom Robert Sterk conducted interviews . He also conducted one of the last interviews with Bruno Kreisky in his holiday home on Mallorca, where he spent his last years.

He was married to the ORF editor Inge Wistawel .
