Robert Weir (athlete)

Robert Weir ( Robert Boyd "Bob" Weir ; born February 4, 1961 in Birmingham ) is a former British discus and hammer thrower .

As a hammer thrower, he won the 1982 Commonwealth Games in Brisbane for England . The following year he was starting NCAA champions for Southern Methodist University . At the Summer Universiade 1983 in Edmonton he won silver, at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki he was eliminated in qualification.

In 1984 he started at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles in both disciplines: he finished eighth in the hammer throw and tenth in the discus throw.

In 1993 he returned to international competition, now exclusively as a discus thrower. At the 1993 World Championships in Stuttgart and the 1994 European Championships in Helsinki he failed to qualify, and at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria he won bronze. In 1995 he was ninth at the 1995 World Cup in Gothenburg , in 1996 he did not get past the first round at the Olympic Games in Atlanta .

After an eighth place at the 1997 World Cup in Athens and the 1998 European Championship in Budapest, he won the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur. At the 1999 World Cup in Seville, the Olympic Games in Sydney and the 2001 World Cup in Edmonton, he was eliminated from the qualification.

In 2002 he won bronze at the Commonwealth Games in Manchester , but failed in the preliminary round at the European Championships in Munich .

Nine times he was English champion in discus throw (1983, 1984, 1993, 1996-2000, 2002) and once in hammer throw (1982).
