Roberto Domingo Rogel (born July 20, 1944 in Mendoza ), also known by the nickname El Conejo (Eng. The Rabbit ), is a former Argentinian football player on the position of defender and later football coach.

career

As a player

Rogel began his professional career in 1961 with his hometown club Gimnasia y Esgrima Mendoza and after two seasons switched to the better-known namesake Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata , for whom he worked until 1967 and played more than a hundred competitive games.

In early 1968 Rogel switched to the Boca Juniors , with whom he won the Argentine soccer championship twice and the cup competition once in 1969 and 1970 .

Due to a conflict with the long-time club president of the Boca Juniors at that time, Alberto José Armando, Rogel left the club and moved to Mexico , where he won the cup competition with the UANL Tigres in the 1975/76 season . Immediately after this triumph, Rogel returned to his homeland and initially played for Rosario Central before ending his active career in 1977 with the Colombian club Deportivo Cali .

As a trainer

In 1979 he took over the role of head coach at CA San Lorenzo for the first time and signed with Quilmes AC in 1980 , with whom he won Group A season in 1982 and left clubs like the Argentine record champions CA River Plate behind. In the subsequent play-offs , Quilmes prevailed in the quarterfinals against Unión de Santa Fe and in the semifinals against Estudiantes de La Plata and was only defeated in the finals against Ferro Carril Oeste .

In the 1989/90 season he led the CA Lanús to runner-up in the Primera B Nacional and thus back to the top division after 13 years of abstinence.
