Roberto Saad (born June 3, 1961 in Tucuman ) is a retired Argentinian tennis player .

Life

Saad attended high school in Pittsburgh as an exchange student , then studied at Wichita State University in Kansas . In 1983 and 84 he was appointed to the top All-American selection. He completed his first full year as a professional tennis player in 1985 and reached his first double final towards the end of the year. In Melbourne he lost on the side of Brett Dickinson against local heroes Darren Cahill and Peter Carter . The following year his best result was the semi-finals in Buenos Aires together with Jay Berger . In 1987 he was in the semi-finals of the doubles competition in three tournaments in a row, but only in 1988 he could win his first title. He succeeded in doing this alongside Andrew Castle in Seoul . After that, however, he was unable to continue his winning streak and after a long break he had to play his way up again in 1991 through lower-class satellite tournaments. In September 1991 he not only achieved his only single title on the ATP Challenger Tour , he also won three Challenger double titles in a row. For the next two years he mainly played in tournaments on the ATP Challenger Tour. After he had practically not been active on the ATP World Tour for several years, he surprisingly returned in August 1993 with the tournament victory in Kitzbühel at the side of Juan Garat . Immediately afterwards they both reached the final in San Marino , where they were defeated by Daniel Orsanic and Olli Rahnasto . This should also be the last final participation in an ATP tournament in his professional career. In 1994 he was once again in the double-finals of a Challenger tournament, the following year he ended his career. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1985 with position 109 in singles and in 1988 with position 36 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the third round at the 1985 Australian Open . In the doubles competition, he surprisingly reached the semifinals in 1988 with Andrew Castle. There they were subject to Jeremy Bates and Peter Lundgren .

Saad played a doubles game in 1986 for the Argentine Davis Cup team . At Eduardo Bengoechea's side , he defeated José Luis Damiani and Diego Pérez in a 5-0 win against Uruguay . As a result, however, he was not nominated again.
