action

1174: The young Robin Hood has to watch as his father William is killed from behind by Malcolm during a dragon hunt. The deceitful Malcolm takes the dragon, which has taken the form of a young woman, with him.

15 years later, Robin Hood has grown up and moves with his loyal followers Little John and Gareth through the woods of Nottingham to relieve Prince John of his tax money and give the money to the poor. Malcolm is now the Sheriff of Nottingham and a close friend of the prince who represents Richard the Lionheart . Robin Hood is a thorn in his side, so it is just right that Marianne, who was supposed to marry the Prince of France, has joined Robin Hood, her childhood sweetheart. He lets go of the kite and so turns the inhabitants of the villages against Robin Hood.

Robin tries to stop the dragon with Will Scarlet and Little John. To do this, he must go into the dark forest, which he can reach with the help of a portal. There he learns the truth about the dragon: Alina was once a resident of the parallel world, but was cast out by the other residents. The sunlight triggers the transformation and Malcolm blackmails her for cutting out her heart and keeping it in a secret location. Malcolm has meanwhile captured Marianne and Gareth. With the help of a letter that proves that Prince John wanted to have the King of France murdered, he wants to blackmail him and thus ascend the throne himself. However, Marianne destroys the letter. When Robin tries to free his friends, he is captured himself. However, with the help of Gareth he escapes and tries to prevent the execution. In a duel between him and Malcolm the dragon intervenes, which is very badly injured and dies. Robin can kill Malcolm through this distraction.

With the contents of the letter, he blackmailed Prince John into releasing Marianne, but withheld the fact that the letter no longer exists.

publication

The film was shot for the Canadian broadcaster Syfy and aired there on September 28, 2009. The German rental version was released on February 4, 2011, the purchase version on March 14 of the same year.

criticism

The film was generally rated poorly. Many critics did not like the insubstantial script, which was too different from the original story.

“The biggest weakness, however, is the inconsistency in the script. 'Beyond Sherwood Forest' works neither as a 'Robin Hood' variant, nor as a fantasy flick that runs on its own two feet. For this, the actor Peter DeLuise (son of comedy legend Dom DeLuise ), well-known from '21 Jump Street ' and ' SeaQuest ', staged it too much like the TV pilot of a series that was never realized. "
