Rodgers Lee Grant

Rodgers Lee Grant (born January 18, 1936 in Harlem / New York , † April 12, 2012 in Paulding , Ohio ) was an American jazz pianist , arranger and composer .

Live and act

Grant was born in 1963 by the hit Yeh! Yeh! well-known and was a long-time pianist in Mongo Santamaría's band , heard on his Columbia albums La Bamba (1965), Mongomania (1967), Soul Bag (1968), Workin 'on a Groovy Thing and Stone Soul (1969). He also worked as a hotel pianist and a. on recordings by George Benson ( Tell It Like It Is ), Esther Phillips ( Confessin 'the Blues , 1976) and Hubert Laws ( In the Beginning , 1974 and Flute By-Laws ).

The song Yeh! Yeh! he composed in 1963 together with the Sun Ra saxophonist Pat Patrick . The singer Jon Hendricks wrote a lyrics for it and recorded his own cover version . In 1964 the song was an international hit for Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames ; later it was also interpreted by artists such as They Might Be Giants , Matt Bianco , Tuck & Patti , Lasse Mårtenson and Van Morrison . Grant also composed and arranged the tracks Sweet 'Tater Pie (for Santamaria), Triple Threat (interpreted by Sonny Fortune , among others ), Morning Star (by Stan Getz among others ) and Just Say Goodbye (by Dave Pike and Esther Phillips among others ).
