Roland Bonaparte
Roland-Napoléon Bonaparte, 6th Principe de Canino e Musignano (born May 19, 1858 in Paris , † April 14, 1924 there ) was a member of the Bonaparte family and a French scientist , anthropologist and writer .
Life
Roland-Napoléon was the fourth son of ten children of Pierre Napoléon Bonaparte (1815–1881) and his wife Éléonore-Justine Ruflin (1832–1905). His paternal grandparents were Lucien Bonaparte , younger brother of Napoléon , and his second wife, Alexandrine Laurence de Bleschamp. Roland-Napoleon Bonaparte graduated from the Saint-Cyr Military School.
On November 18, 1880, Roland-Napoléon Bonaparte married Marie-Félix Blanc (1859–1882), daughter of the wealthy financier and casino owner François Blanc and Marie Charlotte Hensel in Paris . The marriage, which all reports said was a happy one, had a daughter: Marie (1882–1962), psychoanalyst ⚭ 1907 Prince George of Greece (1869–1957)
His wife Marie-Félix died shortly after giving birth of consumption and left him a great fortune. Roland Bonaparte financed a large number of expeditions to Africa , Asia and America . In his Paris villa on avenue d'Iéna n ° 10 he kept a huge collection of scientific specimens, including the most extensive herbarium in the world. He donated this to the Société de Géographie , of which he was president until his death. In 1919 he was president of the Société botanique de France .
