Rolf Peter Gottfried Schulze

Rolf Peter Gottfried Schulze (born June 29, 1953 in Karlsruhe ) is a German diplomat and was most recently Ambassador to Chile from September 2015 to August 2019 .

biography

After graduating from high school in Karlsruhe in 1972, he studied classical philology and linguistics between 1973 and 1979 at the University of Paris , the University of Trier , the University of Freiburg and the University of Cambridge . After taking the teaching examination in 1979, he joined the diplomatic service in 1980 .

After completing his preparatory service in 1982, he was initially a consultant in the press department at the embassy in Trinidad and Tobago and then between 1985 and 1989 in the political department at the embassy in Japan . He then returned to the headquarters of the Foreign Office , where he was a consultant in the political department. He was then head of the press department at the embassy in Spain from 1992 to 1995 .

After working as Deputy Head of Unit for Pan-European Political Structures, OSCE and the Mediterranean Region in the Political Department of the Foreign Office from 1995 to 1999, he was Head of the Political Department at the Embassy in the People's Republic of China between 1999 and 2003 . After returning to Germany, from 2003 to 2007 he was Head of Division for the South Caucasus and Central Asia in the Political Department (Division 207) and thus responsible for Armenia , Azerbaijan , Georgia , Turkmenistan , Uzbekistan , Kazakhstan , Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan . From August 2007 to August 2011 he was ambassador to Vietnam until his replacement by Claus Wunderlich and then until 2015 ambassador to Thailand .

In September 2015, Schulze became ambassador to Chile as the successor to the retired Hans Henning Blomeyer-Bartenstein . He handed over this office to Christian Hellbach in August 2019.
