Rolf Tophoven
Rolf Tophoven (* 1937 ) is a German journalist . He has been known as a terrorism expert since the 1970s .
Life
Tophoven studied German language and literature and history with a focus on military history and guerrilla warfare at the University of Münster and graduated with the second state examination. During his studies he became a member of the Catholic student association Saxonia Münster in the Cartell Association of Catholic German student associations . Following his studies was Tophoven teachers for the subjects History , Politics and German at the Hugo-Junkers-Gymnasium in Rheydt .
Tophoven ran the Institute for Terrorism Research in Bonn on behalf of and together with Hans Josef Horchem , the long-time director of the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution in Hamburg , from its establishment in 1986 until its dissolution in 1993 . Since it was re-established as an institute for terrorism research and security policy on September 11, 2003, the second anniversary of the aircraft bombings in the USA , he has been head of the Essen- based facility, which conducts its own research and pursues political goals. Tophoven is also a member of the Citizenship Advisory Board of the Annette Barthelt Foundation .

Services
Tophoven is an expert on terrorism and other security issues. In addition to newspaper articles, including for Die Welt , he has published several papers on the Middle East conflict , GSG 9 and militant Islamism .
The RAF prisoners had his book Fedayin in their library in Stammheim .
With his statements on hostage-taking in the context of the Chechnya conflict , he established an ideological connection between the perpetrators there and Al-Qaeda .
