Rainer Lutz Glatz (born January 10, 1951 in Quakenbrück ) is a retired Lieutenant General . D. of the army of the Bundeswehr . In his last employment he was from April 22, 2009 to April 23, 2013 commander of the command and control command of the Bundeswehr in Geltow near Potsdam .

Military career

Training and first uses

On July 1, 1969, Glatz joined the German Armed Forces as an officer candidate for the Jäger- und Panzergrenadier troops. After completing his officer training at the Army Officer School II in Hamburg and the Combat Troop School II in Munster, he was employed in various posts from 1972 to 1978 , first as a platoon leader , then as an S2 officer (military security and communications) and finally as a company commander . General staff training and service as a staff officer

From 1981 to 1983 Glatz completed the 24th general staff course at the command academy of the Bundeswehr in Hamburg . In 1998 Rainer Glatz received another troop command and led the Jägerbrigade 37 "Free State of Saxony" in Frankenberg . During this assignment, Glatz was appointed Brigadier General and was in command of the Multinational Brigade Center (DFGFA) in Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina from November 1998 to April 1999 , when his association provided forces for the 2nd SFOR contingent in Bosnia . Subsequently, in 2001, his path took him back to the command staff of the Army, where he was deployed as Head of Staff Department III (leadership, conception, operational principles) under the command of Manfred Dietrich .

On September 1, 2002, he took over the Special Operations Division in Regensburg from Hans-Otto Budde and headed it, with the appointment of Major General, until March 9, 2006, when he handed over command to Hans-Lothar Domröse . This was followed by a transfer to the Bundeswehr command and control command in Geltow near Potsdam , where Glatz became deputy commander. Even after retiring from active service, he is still a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Defense for the Center for Military History and Social Sciences of the Bundeswehr .

Private

Glatz is married and has two sons. From July 10, 2009 to July 15, 2016, Glatz was chairman of the Bundes Deutsche Infanterie e. V. (BDInf).
