Rolf Umbach
Rolf Umbach (born August 19, 1926 in Leverkusen ; † February 12, 2018 in Altweilnau ) was a German psychologist , theologian and writer .
Life
Rolf Umbach completed a degree in theology , psychology and philosophy . In 1952 he received his doctorate from the University of Munich with a thesis on the Russian philosopher Lev Isaakovič Šestov for a doctorate in philosophy. Umbach ran a home for difficult youths. At the beginning of 1964 he was hired as the first police psychologist in Germany by the then Munich Police President Manfred Schreiber , "to improve the relationship between the public and the police (which was disturbed after the Schwabing riots )." Umbach was given an advisory role in management and operational issues of the Munich police . He shaped the beginnings of police psychology in Germany. In 1968 he switched to the German Development Service . From 1976 he worked as a development worker in Ethiopia and as a pastor and lecturer in Namibia . He then worked as parish priest in Wiesbaden until 1995 . Umbach lived with his wife, the Chinese painter Yu Mo Hung Umbach (* 1947), whom he married in 1976, in Weilrod-Altweilnau ( Taunus ). Rolf Umbach was the author of theological treatises as well as books for young people , travelogues and plays .
He died in February 2018 at the age of 91.
