Life

Serych started working as a bricklayer in 1959 . He then studied railway construction and transport economics at the Tashkent Institute for Railway Transport, graduating in 1965. After military service in the Soviet Army , he worked as a construction manager in the Tashkent Department of the Ministry of Construction of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic (UsSSR) . From 1966 to 1968 he was an engineer in project institutes of the USSR Ministry of Agricultural Construction and the Ministry of Energy and Electrification of the USSR .

Then Serych started his scientific work at the Moscow Auto Transport Institute (MADI) . In 1972 he completed his apprenticeship there and became laboratory manager. In 1974 he received his doctorate with the dissertation Investigation of the state of tension of expanded clay - concrete components under the influence of different moisture contents as a candidate in technical sciences . In 1975 he moved to the Moscow Research Institute for Concrete and Reinforced Concrete as a senior assistant . He worked in the laboratory for reinforced concrete theory under the direction of AA Gwosdew . Then he headed the aerated concrete laboratory there and became deputy director of the institute. He created the basis for taking into account the shrinkage and creep of concrete when calculating the concrete reinforced concrete structure. He developed methods for the calculation of aerated concrete structures and their use as well as processes for the production of concrete of the highest quality. His research results were incorporated into the Gossudarstwenny Standart and Eurocode norms. In 1987 he received his doctorate in technical sciences with a dissertation on the strength and deformation behavior of concrete under the influence of different moisture contents . In 1988 he became director of the institute. Under his leadership, processes for the automated production of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures were developed, as well as standard indicators for various types of lightweight concrete and polymer concrete . The service life of reinforced concrete structures and corrosion resistance have been improved. Serych received eight Russian patents and one US patent. Serych's students work in Russia , Azerbaijan , Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan . He was the editor-in-chief of the Russian magazine Beton und Stahlbeton .

1988–1989 Serych worked in the government commission for coordinating work to repair the damage caused by the Spitak earthquake . In 1990 he became a member of the Russian Engineering Academy . 1990–1994 he was a member of the Presidium of the Comité Européen du Béton (CEB) and President of the National Committee. Together with others, he founded the Reinforced Concrete Association , which was merged with the national committee in the Fédération internationale du béton in 1991 . In 1991 he became a professor of building construction.

In 1994 Serych became head of the Department for Organization and Coordination of Scientific Work of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Science on a leave of absence from his director's office . 1996–2002 he advised the Russian Ministry of Technology, the Ministry of Science and the Ministry of Industry. From 1999 he worked in the commissions for earthquake-proof construction .

Serych devoted the last years of his life to teaching at the MADI and the Moscow Academy for Communal Services and Building . He was on the new 2002 Chair for plant construction of the road service called the MADI. Until recently he did research at the Research Institute for Concrete and Reinforced Concrete.

Serych was buried in Moscow's Vagankovo cemetery .
