The Rosa Luxembourg Street is a major thoroughfare in Frankfurt am Main and part of the national road 3004 ( Frankfurt am Main - Schmitten ). As a four-lane city motorway, it connects the Frankfurter Alleenring and the western part of the A 66 motorway with the northwestern districts of Ginnheim , Nordweststadt , Heddernheim , Niederursel and Riedberg , as well as with the city of Oberursel (Taunus) . It runs as a viaduct , in an embankment or in incisions .
course
From the Miquel junction (connection of A 66 and Alleenring) it runs between the Miquelanlage in the east and the Europaturm in the west to Wilhelm-Epstein-Straße on a dam, then through Ginnheim to the crossing of the Main-Weser-Bahn on the street Am Ginnheim woods as a viaduct (elevated road). This is followed by a short stretch along the embankment on both sides of the above-ground Ginnheim-Nordweststadt subway line through the Niddapark to the crossing of the Nidda as a viaduct, then from the Römerstadt subway station in a cut and embankment between the north-west center in the west and Heddernheim to the crossing of the underground line from Heddernheim to Oberursel , from where it crosses the Urselbachtal on a bridge. In the area of the north-west center, the street crosses the area of the Roman city of Nida from the 1st to 3rd centuries AD.
history
This road is part of the project of the Northwest city by these Northwest from the south road should be opened up.
The opening of the first section took place in 1974 between Ginnheim , the Roman city and the newly built northwest city . In 1980 it was extended to the south and connected to the Alleenring and the Bundesautobahn 66 .
The pure motor road runs partly through densely built-up residential areas. That is why a speed limit of 80 km / h was introduced in 1981 despite the motorway-like expansion as an elevated road . In some parts there is also a speed limit of 60 km / h today. In the old construction section between Ginnheimer Landstrasse and In der Römerstadt , the above-ground underground line U1 / U9 runs in the median . There is a special feature at Hadrianstrasse : The federal bunker there was not allowed to be demolished when the road was built in 1969. Because of this, the expressway had to be divided and the south-facing lane swiveled. Today the bunker serves as advertising space for the neighboring north-west center .
For about two decades, Rosa-Luxemburg-Strasse ended near the north-west of the city and became Niederurseler Landstrasse at a temporary junction. It was not until the 1990s that the final expansion took place with a bypass of the center of Niederursel, with the road becoming a single - lane extra- urban road that crosses under the federal motorway 5 and is subsequently called Frankfurter Landstraße in the Hochtaunus district and leads to the Oberursel (Taunus) train station . Large sections of the U3 line run parallel to this.
The Niddapark junction was rebuilt in the run-up to the Federal Garden Show in 1989 . The previous exit, which included only one exit from and one driveway towards Nordweststadt, was eliminated.
criticism
The routing and construction of Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße has been criticized over the years by various citizens' initiatives and by the local council 9. In addition to the noise pollution of the residents, it was also a question of the fact that the street "cuts" several parts of the city.
planning
There are plans to convert the street in the Ginnheim area into a normal four-lane city street and to connect it to the Alleenring and the A 66 in a more space-saving way with a roundabout or in some other way. The reason is, on the one hand, the need to renovate the elevated road, and on the other hand, housing projects in this area. In this context, the planned gap closure of the subway could also be created there.
