Birgit Rabisch (born January 9, 1953 in Hamburg ) is a German writer .

Life

Birgit Rabisch is the daughter of a carpenter and a secretary . She grew up with her grandparents in Wilster , Schleswig-Holstein ; from 1964 she lived with her family in Heist . She attended the Ludwig-Meyn-Gymnasium in Uetersen , where she passed the matriculation examination in 1972. Then studied her sociology and German studies at the University of Hamburg . She was involved in the student movement , the women's movement and the peace movement . In the late 1970s she began to write short prose and poetry . From 1982 to 2002 she was a lecturer for German as a Foreign Language at the Hamburg Adult Education Center . Today she lives as a freelance writer in Hamburg-Eimsbüttel .

Birgit Rabisch is the author of narrative works and poems. She was particularly successful with her dystopian novel Duplik Jonas 7 on the subject of genetic engineering . An updated version of the novel was published as an e-book in 2017 and is currently being filmed. Her science fiction novel Under Brand People dealt with the topic of genome editing optimized people. The novel Die Schwarze Rosa is based on the life story of Birgit Rabisch's grandmother Rosa Klapproth, Erich Klapproth's sister , who was close to groups of the right-wing extremist " Black Reichswehr " in the 1920s ; Waiting for the call uses the example of three women scientists to deal with the problem of the responsibility of researchers in the 20th century in the form of a family novel. Two novels were published in autumn 2013: Die Vier Liebeszeiten (reissued in 2016) depicts a love relationship through all the ups and downs of life and in Blind Copy - That's not me! suddenly appears to a brain researcher her own life as a fake. Her novel We don't know each other was also published in 2016 , which describes a mother-daughter conflict from both perspectives, followed by the cleaning lady at the Beatles in 2018.

Birgit Rabisch is a member of the Association of German Writers , the Hamburg Authors' Association and the Hamburg Literature Center. In 1994 she received the Environmental Literature Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia for Duplik Jonas 7 , in 2018 the short story prize and in 2019 the poetry prize (3rd place) of the Hamburg authors' association. In 2020 she chaired the jury for the group 48 award .
