The Rossert is 516 m above sea level. NN high wooded mountain in the Taunus . It is located east of the Kelkheim district of Eppenhain . On the summit of the Rossert there is a rock group that gave the mountain its name. Rossert is derived from an Old High German word for stone rubble. The rock formation was the origin of a medieval legend about a devil's castle on the Rossert.
Nature reserve
The summit of the Rossert is the highest point of the proposed fauna-flora habitat Rossert-Hainkopf-Dachsbau . The 119 hectare area was designated as a nature reserve in 1977 . It stretches like a belt south of Eppenhain on the heights of the Rossert, the Hainkopf ( 474 m above sea level ) and the Dachsbau ( 373 m above sea level ).
