history

1359–1796: The Wertheim Hospital

A hospital in Wertheim was first mentioned in documents as early as 1359; In 1418 a hospital master was listed in the Wertheim Church's list of interest rates. From 1491 he was obliged to make a weekly settlement to the mayor, the mayor and the council members. Furthermore, the hospital masters - like all carters - were later obliged to bring water with their fleet of vehicles in the event of a fire alarm. Between 1590 and 1605 the hospital was under Count Ludwig III. von Löwenstein expanded considerably. The mighty south wing was built in 1603 according to the ideas of the hospital master at the time, Bernhard Cantzler .

1796–1957: Reconstruction of the Wertheim hospital

On March 14, 1796, the councilor and physician Andreas Sauer sent a petition to the government in which he wrote: A small hospital is a great and important need of our city. The local hospital is only by name, but otherwise - nothing more. The renovation then began that same year. When the Lauda – Wertheim railway line was built in 1868, the hospital front was shortened by four window axes in favor of the railway line. This intervention made a new building necessary, which was approved by the local council on May 23, 1867. However, since the funds were insufficient, only a few minor changes were made to the old hospital building. In 1945 the city rented the "Haus am Berg" and set it up as an internal department of the hospital. The number of beds increased to 100 as a result of this measure, but the hospital did not meet the requirements of the time. In 1948 a competition was announced, which was won by the architect Gisbert von Teuffel from Karlsruhe. Due to the currency reform , however, it was not until 1953 that planning resumed and completed the following year. Construction work began in May 1955. US soldiers stationed at Reinhardshof helped to level the area.

1957–2016: The hospital moves

The opening took place on May 2, 1957. A new functional wing was inaugurated on November 4, 1983, followed by expansion and renovation work, which was completed in 1990.

Since 2016: New building of the Rotkreuzklinik Wertheim

After the start of structural planning in the spring of 2013, the topping-out ceremony for a 46 million euro new building at the Rotkreuzklinik Wertheim took place in 2014. On May 21, 2016, the hospital moved from the old building (Carl-Roth-Straße 1) to the new building (Rotkreuzstraße 2).
