The art association Rotor - Center for Contemporary Art (spelling <rotor> ) was founded in 1999 in Graz by curators Margarethe Makovec and Anton Lederer . The focus of the association is on contemporary art that deals with social, sociopolitical, ecological and economic issues.

Focus

Makovec and Lederer curate theme-related, non-commercial exhibitions both in the Rotor premises in Graz and as part of cultural festivals such as B. at the Wiener Festwochen or steirischer herbst , and in public spaces . In the context of themed exhibitions and projects, the art association Rotor repeatedly awards work orders to artists.

One of the main focuses of the Rotor Art Association is contemporary art in Central and Southeastern Europe . In exchange with partner institutions in these countries, the art association has already participated in several EU projects as a participant or coordinator. Rotor also handles artistic exchange and artist-in-residence programs in Central and Southeastern Europe for the Republic of Austria .

Since the relocation of the exhibition rooms to the culturally mixed Lend district of Graz in 2007, the art association Rotor has also been increasingly involved in local cultural mediation and in networking local artists, for example in the neighborhood project "Annenviertel" and in the CRK + association together with the camera Austria and Grazer Kunstverein .

The art association Rotor has received several awards for its activities.
