Roxie Albertha Roker (born August 28, 1929 in Miami , Florida , † December 2, 1995 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actress . Her most successful role was that of Helen Willis in the sitcom The Jeffersons . She played this role from 1975 to 1985.

life and career

Roker was born in Miami, but grew up in Brooklyn, New York City . She is a cousin of Al Roker and attended Howard University , where she played in a drama club. She began her career with the "Negro Ensemble Company".

From 1962 to 1985 she was married to Seymour "Sy" Kravitz, with whom she has a son, the musician Lenny Kravitz . Roker died of breast cancer at the age of 66 .
