RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race is an offshoot of the US reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race by and with the drag queen RuPaul , in which celebrities compete with the support of former Drag Race participants to raise money for a charity.

background

RuPaul first announced a celebrity offshoot called RuPaul's Celebrity Drag Race in October 2019 . With the release of a trailer on April 10, 2020, the renaming to RuPaul's Secret Celebrity Drag Race and the start of broadcasting two weeks later on April 24 was announced. The four episodes appeared immediately after episodes of the twelfth season of the regular drag race show.

format

In Secret Celebrity Drag Race , the contestants are celebrities whose identities are only revealed at the beginning of the episodes. They are supported by former drag race participants, i.e. professional drag queens, as their mentors. Three celebrities competed in each of the four episodes; a total of ten drag queens acted as mentors, which means that two were there twice each.

The celebrities go through the transformation into a drag persona along the typical elements of a drag race sequence: After a mini-challenge in Quick Drag, the winner can assign a mentor to each candidate. In a complete drag look (made up of make-up and outfit) and with a new drama name, they then complete a maxi challenge and present themselves on the runway. Between the runway and the lipsync, they stay in the workroom, where they receive surprise visits from friends, relatives or their partners or communicate with the appropriate people via video transmission. Finally, they come in Lipsync - Triell on, after RuPaul appoints a winner. The winner will receive $ 30,000 and the other two will receive $ 10,000 each as a donation to a charity of their choice, which was featured earlier in the episode. In the event of a triple win, the prize money was divided into $ 20,000 each.
