Rudolf Kraus (District Administrator)

Rudolf Kraus (born July 6, 1882 in Bruchsal , † December 19, 1955 in Weil am Rhein ) was a German administrative officer, local politician ( DDP ) and, after the end of World War II, for a short time district administrator for the district of Loerrach .

Education and career up to the First World War

Rudolf Kraus attended elementary school and high school in Bruchsal . In 1904 he passed the examination to become a financial assistant at the Bruchsal domain office and then worked in this position at various tax offices. From 1911 to 1914 he held the position of auditor for the city of Mannheim . From 1914 to 1918 he then took part in the First World War.

Between the wars and the time under the National Socialists

In 1919 Rudolf Kraus became mayor of Weil am Rhein . During his time as mayor, u. a .: The elevation of Weil to town on October 16, 1929 and various larger building projects, such as the building of the garden city Leopoldshöhe from 1922 to 1926, the construction of the first cemetery hall in South Baden , and the start of construction of the sports stadium in 1927.

Rudolf Kraus held the office of mayor of the hamlet until April 6, 1933, when he was initially on leave by the National Socialists . On May 8, 1933, the National Socialist-controlled local council expressed its distrust in him. After his release he worked from 1933 to 1945 as a biller for various municipalities.

post war period

From April to June 1945, Rudolf Kraus served briefly as treasurer of the district treasury in Lörrach and was also appointed mayor of Weil am Rhein and deputy district administrator by the French military government at the end of May . From autumn 1945 to 1947, Rudolf Kraus was also the district administrator by order of the French military government. He resigned the post of mayor of the hamlet in September 1946. Following his work as district administrator, he worked as managing director of the Rheinhafengesellschaft Weil am Rhein until his retirement in 1952 .
