Wolfgang Bechtold

Wolfgang Bechtold (born December 17, 1908 in Mannheim , † January 13, 1990 in Lörrach ) was a German Nazi functionary , administrative officer and later district administrator in Lörrach.

education

Bechtold was an officer candidate in the Reichswehr from April 1927 to December 1928 , where he passed the Fahnenjunker examination. But he left due to illness. Bechtold then began to study law, which he completed in 1933 with the first and 1936 with the second state law examination.

Nazi career

Wolfgang Bechtold was a member of the NSDAP since 1933 . In July 1936, after completing his studies, he began his service in the Baden interior administration. From October 1936 on, Bechtold was on leave and was seconded to the staff of Rudolf Hess in Munich. He was thus also a direct subordinate of Martin Bormann .

In October 1937 he was seconded to the Reich Ministry of Economics in Berlin. From September 1938 he was officially active again in the position of a government councilor in the Baden interior administration, but was reassigned to the Hess staff in October. From 1940 to 1945 Bechtold was active in the local administration of Alsace , which was constituted by the German occupation , first as land commissioner in Rappoltsweiler then as district administrator in Marckolsheim . At the end of January 1945 he fled to southern Baden.

Post-war period and district administrator in Lörrach

After the end of the war, Wolfgang Bechtold worked briefly as provisional district administrator of Emmendingen in 1945. In 1951 he became district administrator in Kehl before taking up the position of district administrator in the Lörrach district in 1955 . This he held until his retirement at the turn of the year 1972/1973.

As District Administrator of Lörrach, Bechtold set priorities in various areas. During the Baden-Württemberg district reform of 1973 , he successfully campaigned for the existence of the Lörrach district. During his tenure, Bechtold particularly supported various larger construction projects in the district. For example, the road expansion to help strengthen rural areas, or the construction of the district retirement home in Weil am Rhein and the nursing home in the Schopfheim district of Wiechs .
