The Rheinhafen Weil am Rhein is a river port on the Upper Rhine in Weil am Rhein in Baden-Württemberg . It is located at Rhine kilometers 170.3 to 173.1 R downstream after the Rhine port of Rheinfelden and the Rhine ports of Basel at an altitude of about 279 m above sea level. NN .
Together with the ports in Ottmarsheim and the Swiss Rhine ports with the one in Basel-Kleinhüningen , Birsfelden and the Auhafen in Muttenz , the Rheinhafen Weil am Rhein forms a cooperation known as RheinPorts .
history
After the construction of the Rhine canal in 1922 and the expansion of the barrage at Kembs , the decision to build a transhipment facility was made in 1932. On May 25, 1934, the Rheinhafengesellschaft Weil am Rhein was formed with limited liability , the main shareholders of which were the cities of Weil am Rhein and Lörrach . In 1935 the port could start operating.
Infrastructure
The hamlet of Hafen is divided into a northern, a southern and the container terminal in between. Cellulose , stones and kaolin are mainly stored and handled in the South Port . It is the oldest part of the port facilities, in which the administration is also located. In the northern part, bulk and bulk goods such as coal , gravel and crushed stone are mainly stored and handled. In the Container Center there is a gantry crane with a 55 meter span, 24.5 meter lifting height and 48 tonnes load capacity. The adjacent shipping pier is 120 meters long. The center's storage area has a capacity for 2100 containers. A port railway with a track system of around 4.6 kilometers connects the three port areas with one another.
The operator is the Rheinhafengesellschaft Weil am Rhein. The port company has 31 employees; another 800 people are employed in the companies there.
The handling of goods doubled from 1995 to 2005. In 2005, 1.061 million tons of goods were handled. Around 599,879 tons of this were handled by ships.
The Weil am Rhein-Schusterinsel customs office , which is subordinate to the main customs office in Lörrach , has a branch at the Rheinhafen .
traffic
The port area Weil am Rhein is accessible via the federal highway 532 to the federal highway 3 and the federal highway 5 . A pull-out siding from the former Basel Bad Bf marshalling yard leads directly to the quays and enables trimodal traffic via the Rhine Valley Railway .
