Rudolf Pacik

Rudolf Pacik (born June 23, 1947 in Vienna ) is an Austrian Roman Catholic theologian , liturgical scholar , university professor and concert organist.

Life

Growing up in Vienna , Pacik studied Catholic theology at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna as well as organ at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna with Walter Pach and at the Basel Conservatory with Daniel Chorzempa .

In 1974 he was at the University of Vienna as a pupil of H. John Emminghaus Dr. theol. obtained his doctorate and passed the concert diploma for organ at the Vienna Musikhochschule in 1975.

From October 1975 he worked as an assistant at the Institute for Liturgical Studies at the University of Innsbruck , at the same time as editor of the magazine for Catholic theology (until the end of 1995) and as organist at the Jesuit Church in Innsbruck .

Rudolf Pacik passed the teaching qualification examination for organ in 1982 at the Innsbruck Conservatory, the graduation to Mag. Art. followed in 1993 at the Graz University of Music.

He completed his habilitation in 1995 at the Theological Faculty of the University of Innsbruck for the subject of liturgical science and taught there from 1997 as an associate professor.

In the summer semester 2000 he was visiting professor for liturgical science at the University of Friborg , in the winter semester 2000/2001 and summer semester 2001 he was visiting professor for liturgical science at the University of Lucerne .

On September 1, 2004, Pacik was appointed professor for liturgical science and sacramental theology at the University of Salzburg . In 2012 he retired.

Important fields of his scientific work are research on Josef Andreas Jungmann (Pacik developed the Jungmann diaries, which until then had only been handwritten in Gabelsberger shorthand, for research), liturgical historical and pastoral liturgical topics, especially in connection with the requirements of the reception of the 2nd Vatican , as well as the connection between church music and liturgy.

Pacik was u. a. Member of the International Working Group for Hymnology (IAH) and numerous liturgical bodies.

In 2012 Pacik was awarded the Orlando-di-Lasso-Medal and received the Leopold's Cross in silver from the Augustinian Canons of Klosterneuburg .
