Rudolf Striedinger (born September 26, 1961 in Wiener Neustadt ) is an officer in the Austrian Armed Forces with the rank of major general and has been the military commander of Lower Austria since May 26, 2011 . On April 4, 2016, he succeeded Brigadier Ewald Iby as head of the Abwehramt .

Life

Rudolf Striedinger was born on September 26, 1961 in Wiener Neustadt and, after graduating from the Theresianum in Vienna in 1979 and completing basic military service in 1980, completed officer training as a one-year volunteer at the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt , where he was retired as a lieutenant in 1983 and as a hunter officer was assigned to the 32nd Landwehr Trunk Regiment in Korneuburg . He worked here as a training officer.

From 1984 to 1987 he was used as a company commander of a hunter company, as a commandant of the headquarters company of a regiment and as an S3 various militia battalions. From 1988 to 1991 he completed the 12th General Staff Course at the National Defense Academy in Vienna, which he graduated as the best in the course and from 1991 to autumn 1994 he was G3 and Deputy Chief of Staff in the Vienna Military Command. Thereafter, Rudolf Striedinger was the officer responsible for personnel, management and coordination matters in the Federal Ministry for National Defense and was in command of the Academic Battalion at the Theresian Military Academy and responsible for the General Staff Office in the Federal Ministry. Until 1998 he was also Chief of Staff of the 2nd Jäger Brigade (mob.) .

In 2002 he was appointed head of the General Staff Office and in 2004 he was promoted to Brigadier.

From May 28, 2006 to December 1, 2006 Rudolf Striedinger was in command of a multinational task force led by Eufor Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina .

From May 26, 2011 to February 2016, he was military commander of Lower Austria. His predecessor in this role was Major General Johann Culik , who retired as Lieutenant General after around twelve years in this position.

Since May 2014 he has been President of the Austrian Society for the Protection of Cultural Property and a board member of the Austrian National Committee Blue Shield . Since October 2015 he has been Vice President of the Austrian Officers Society .

In March 2016, Defense Minister Hans Peter Doskozil appointed Striedinger as the new head of the Abwehramt and replaced Brigadier Ewald Iby in this role on April 4 . From then on, Brigadier Martin Jawurek managed the Lower Austria military command on an interim basis before he was officially appointed as Striedinger's successor in October 2016.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner appointed Striedinger as her chief of staff in January 2020, and Brigadier Reinhard Ruckenstuhl was the interim head of the defense office .

Private

Rudolf Striedinger is married for the second time and lives in Sierndorf .
