Life

origin

Rudolf came from the 2nd branch (Cannewitz) of the Vogtland nobility family von Bünau and was the son of the Electoral Saxon captain Heinrich von Bünau (1726–1779) and his wife Eleonora Henrietta Charlotta, nee von Eschwege. He was named after his grandfather and first witness, Rudolph von Bünau († May 24, 1766 in Langenweitzendorf in the Schleiz reign as heir, feudal lord and court lord on Reussen near Zeitz).

Military career

Bünau was initially a body page and a flag squire in the Landgrave of Hesse. On September 29, 1777 he was employed as an ensign in the Regiment Guard and served here as a captain since February 26, 1796 . In mid-March 1807, Bünau transferred to the Württemberg service and, as a major, became the commandant of the 1st Light Infantry Battalion. Moved to the guard on foot at the end of October 1807, Bünau rose to lieutenant colonel at the beginning of June 1808 and on 23 August 1808 became battalion commander in the “von Phull” infantry regiment. On September 11th, he was appointed regimental commander and on November 5th, 1808, he was promoted to colonel . As such, Bünau took part in the campaign against Austria and was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Military Merit for his achievements on May 23, 1809 . In February 1812 he took over the infantry regiment "Prinz Friedrich" No. 5 and was appointed commander of Ludwigsburg shortly afterwards in March. While maintaining this position, Bünau was appointed commander of Infantry Regiment No. 8 on February 3, 1813, and promoted to major general on January 31, 1814.

On July 2, 1815, he was released from military service. Bünau died as Oberhofmarschall a. D.
