The Rabenstein ruins are the remains of a hilltop castle on the grounds of the Wildflecken military training area near Wildflecken in the Hohe Rhön .
Geographical location
The castle was on the southern basalt head of the Rabensteine. This is located 630 meters southwest of the summit of the Beilstein . Today the border with Hesse is in the immediate vicinity .
history
Nothing is known about the history of the castle. However, it was located on the Fulda - Würzburg border , which is why it can be assumed that it was a protective castle with the purpose of border defense.
description
Only remains of the wall remain from the complex itself. Two courses are carved into the rock. A larger one is provided with steps. A smaller corridor, ten meters from the large one, leads three meters into the rock. Both are not linked.
