history

Even in Roman times, the road from Sabaria to Sopianae led over the Raab . The remains of the bridge and the sentry box for the soldiers were exposed. The piles of the wooden bridge are still visible in the river bed when the water level is low. The cemetery belonging to the post is also known.

“Terra Rum” is the name of the oldest document from 1246 that mentions his name. During the Tatar campaign in 1242, the area was depopulated, which is probably why it is referred to as land ("Terra") and not as a settlement. In 1260 it was referred to as "terra castri Rwm" and in 1560 as "Rwm fortalicium" (fortress, castle) - probably an indication of the fortress from which the bridge was guarded. In 1619 the settlement was mentioned for the first time as "Rum oppidum" (field town).

In 1857 645 people lived here in 68 houses. In 1869 almost the whole village burned down. In 1910 there were 1315 inhabitants, in 2008 1258 people lived here; the current number of inhabitants is according to the homepage of the municipality 1280.

Rum has been an independent municipality since 1988. In 1990 the first free elections for self-government took place.
