Ruptured Heart Theory ( English : "theory of the broken heart") is a song of Sludge band Eyehategod . The song was released in August 1994 as the band's first 7 "vinyl single .

Emergence

The single was recorded during the recording of Take as Needed for Pain in Studio 13 in 1993 and was released for the first time a year after the album.

Publications

The first 300 copies of the single were colored and numbered by hand. The other versions appeared in marbled pink vinyl. The two sides of the record was titled Dixie White Trash, the A side with the pieces Ruptured Heart Theory and Story of the Eye (2:29) and God Loves Heroin with the piece Blank / Shoplift (3:58).

The single Ruptured Heart Theory appeared after the release of the simultaneously recorded album Take as Needed for Pain, on which the songs Ruptured Heart Theory and Story of the Eye are not included. The piece Blank / Shoplift, on the other hand, is on this album as two separate, longer and changed pieces. The full single has an exact running time of 10:00 minutes.

For the album Dopesick , recorded two years later in one take , the song Ruptured Heart Theory was recorded again. All three tracks released on the single were part of the compilation Southern Discomfort released by Century Media in 2000 . In 2006 all three tracks appeared on the re-release of the album Take as Needed for Pain in the version released in 1994.

criticism

In the description of the album Dopesick, William York singles out the piece as one of the best songs on the album.

"Ruptured Heart Theory" is the one title that shows the band in their deepest despair, with its feedback-spewing guitars, the cracking cymbals, the tortured voice and the endless creeping pace. "

- York, William: Review of Dopesick.
