Preaching the “End-Time” Message is a 2005 compilation album by the sludge band EyeHateGod . It includes sampler contributions , live and demo recordings. The album was dedicated to the Pantera guitarist and longtime friend of the band Dimebag Darrell , who was murdered in December 2004 .

history

After EyeHateGod had fulfilled their contract with Century Media with 10 Years of Abuse (and Still Broke) , the band split from their bassist Danny Nick and replaced him with Gary Mader. With the new line-up, the group toured Japan, America and Europe. Danny Nick, who was involved in the songwriting and partly in the recording, is not mentioned in the album details. The album was distributed through Emetic Records. The owner of the label Steve Rarick and the managing director Chris Johnson had previously released split singles with EyeHateGod and were friends with the band members.

Contrary to the band's ideas, Emetic announced Preaching the “End-Time” message as a new studio album. The CD only contained material that had not previously been released on CD and was often released on limited singles and was therefore difficult to obtain.

“[T] here are three new songs on it. There's some live Japanese stuff. It's all unreleased on CD actually, but there are some rare seven-inch stuff… not the stuff on “10 Years of Abuse”, but the stuff from the Soilent Green seven-inch and the Crippled Bastards seven-inch split. And then the live Japanese stuff. "

- Mike Williams

Jimmy Bower named the limited advertising opportunities of an indie label as a disadvantage . The new pieces should meanwhile be used for an upcoming album to be written in the same year. The songwriting activity was due to Hurricane Katrina for the time being.

style

Thom Jurek describes Preaching the “End-Time” message as “massive, perverted, pissed off and full of low-frequency distortion and pain.” According to Metal Observer, the pieces vary in quality, especially the production of the demo pieces is criticized. Vampster's Captain Chaos describes the sound of the compilation as the unchanged EyeHateGod sound.

“[T] he heroes of Sludge are disgusting, tough to punky and distorted as ever. The dull and bluesy riffs sometimes dig their way through the stomach, distorted beyond recognition, the bass is responsible for turning the stomach contents inside out, and the hellish screaming of Michael Williams shows that they have not forgotten it. "

Metal Observer

The album was rated mostly mediocre. Thom Jurek praises the recordings of the split singles. The Metal Observer not only criticizes the production, but also criticizes Mike Williams' vocals as “some of the worst vocals I have ever heard. They just sound too weak and pathetic, unlike the poisonous and snappy vocals that can be found on some of the later tracks. "
