Joseph "Joey" Monroe LaCaze (born August 21, 1971 in New Orleans ; † August 23, 2013 ibid) was an American sludge drummer and post-industrial musician.

Career

LaCaze was known as a founding member of the band EyeHateGod , he was also active in the bands The Mystick Krewe of Clearlight and Outlaw Order . In addition, he worked as a percussionist for voodoo ceremonies in New Orleans and maintained various experimental electronic solo projects influenced by noise and industrial , such as Hyperdermic-Stigmata, The Solemn Sickness Continuum and Magickal Child of Thelema, whose recordings he mainly sold as MC and CD-R .

death

After EyeHateGod finished a European tour on August 20, Joey LaCaze died of respiratory failure on August 23, 2013 at his home in New Orleans. He was 42 years old. The drummer had suffered from severe asthma since his youth. Mike Williams stated that LaCaze suffered from sleep apnea syndrome with massive respiratory pauses during the European tour . EyeHateGod went public a few days after the death of the band member and announced the cause of death and the establishment of a donation account. The examining doctors named respiratory failure as the cause of death. To support LaCaze daughter, the band set up their own donation account. A week after his death, LaCaze Asche was buried as part of a voodoo ceremony. Among those in attendance were the deceased's family, band members and members of the New Orleans sludge scene, including Phil Anselmo .

Posthumously

EyeHateGod, who wanted to celebrate their 25th band anniversary with concerts and festival appearances in fall 2013, invited drummer Dale Crover from The Melvins to a big show at the Housecore Horror Fest in Austin on October 27, 2013 and said half of the planned concerts from. Williams described the band's performance, Crovers' statement and the audience joey chants as a tribute to the late LaCaze. Despite the loss of a boyfriend from an early age and one of the founding members, the breakup of the band was not an issue for the remaining members of EyeHateGod, as the remaining founding members Jimmy Bower and Mike Williams pointed out. There were no comments on the continuation of the other projects with Lacaze's participation. The album EyeHateGod , released in May 2014 , which was still completely recorded by LaCaze, is dedicated to his memory and the title of the album is also described by Mike Williams as a homage.

“It just makes so much sense. I can't really explain why, but it's like a fresh start and his drums are on it and all of that. It just seems logical. When he died it all slipped into place and we all said 'Yeah, self-titled'. I think we didn't even really talk about it, we just knew it. "
